Cancel difficulty: Medium

TPG requires 30 days' notice to cancel your internet plan. If you're on a contract, there may be an early termination fee of up to $350. The process itself isn't complicated, but there are a few things to sort out before you call, especially if you need to keep your phone number or return equipment.

TPG is part of the TPG Telecom group (which also owns Vodafone AU, iiNet, and Internode). The cancellation process is the same regardless of whether you're on NBN, 5G Home Broadband, or a mobile plan.

How to cancel TPG internet

Phone (recommended): Call 13 14 23 and select Accounts & Billing, then Cancel Account. If you're overseas, call +61 2 9007 3023.

Online: Log into My Account, go to Account Management, and select Cancel Your Service. Complete the cancellation form with your account details.

Written notice: Email your cancellation request including your customer number, name, and address. You can also send registered mail to PO Box 1844, Macquarie Centre, North Ryde, NSW 2113.

Whichever method you use, the 30-day notice period starts from the day TPG acknowledges your request. You'll keep paying for the service through that notice period.

Before you cancel: If you're switching to another NBN provider, have your new provider place their order on the existing line first. This avoids a gap in service. You'll still need to formally cancel with TPG afterwards.

How to cancel TPG mobile

For mobile plans specifically, call 1300 993 019.

If you want to keep your phone number, you must port it to your new provider before cancelling with TPG. Once a number is cancelled, it cannot be recovered or transferred. Contact your new mobile provider, give them your TPG details, and they'll handle the port. The account holder name must match between providers.

Once the port completes, your TPG mobile service cancels automatically. You don't need to call TPG separately.

If you don't need to keep the number, just call the number above and request cancellation directly.

Notice periods and early termination fees

Month-to-month plans: No early termination fee. You pay for the 30-day notice period and that's it.

Contract plans: If you cancel before your minimum term ends, an early termination charge applies. This is calculated at 50% of the monthly charges remaining on your contract, up to a maximum of $350. Ask the agent for the exact amount before confirming the cancellation.

Your final billing cycle is not prorated. TPG charges for the full month, and any outstanding balance (including early termination fees) appears on your final invoice.

Equipment returns

Whether you need to return your modem depends on your plan type:

  • 5G Home Broadband: If you cancel within the first 36 months, you must return the modem in good working order within 21 days. If you don't, TPG charges a $300 modem fee.
  • Home Wireless Broadband: Same deal. Return within 21 days if you cancel within 24 months of connecting.
  • NBN: Requirements vary by plan. Some modems are yours to keep (especially on older plans), others need to be returned. TPG should send return instructions after cancellation. If you haven't received a return label by your cancellation date, contact them to confirm.

When returning equipment, keep the tracking number. If TPG claims they didn't receive it, you'll want proof of postage.

What to check before you cancel

  • TPG email address: If you have a @tpg.com.au email, it will be permanently deleted after cancellation. Download anything you need before you start.
  • My Account access: You lose access after your account closes. Download your invoices first. They're available via email for 90 days after closure.
  • Only the account holder can cancel. If it's not in your name, you'll need the account holder to call, or a Power of Attorney authorisation.
After you cancel

Your service continues for 30 days after TPG acknowledges your cancellation. Your final invoice arrives by email before the billing period ends. Your TPG email address is permanently deleted. My Account access is removed after closure.

TPG handled. But your bank statement probably has a few more recurring charges you haven't thought about.
