Cancel difficulty: Easy

Credit where it's due: Midjourney makes cancelling simple. No retention screens, no guilt trips, no "are you sure?" gauntlet. You click a button and it's done.

How to cancel

  1. Go to midjourney.com and sign in
  2. Click your profile icon, then Manage Subscription
  3. Click Cancel Plan
  4. Confirm the cancellation

That's it. If you have a plan upgrade or downgrade already scheduled, cancel that change first using the Cancel Change button before cancelling your subscription entirely.

You can also cancel via Discord: type /subscribe in any Midjourney bot channel to get a link to your billing page, then follow the same steps.

After you cancel

You keep access to all features (including any remaining Fast GPU time) until the end of your current billing cycle. Your generated images and account history are not deleted. Stealth mode images stay unpublished. You can resubscribe at any time.

Current pricing

Midjourney is billed in USD only. Australian users pay in USD with their bank's exchange rate applied on top.

PlanMonthlyAnnual (per month)Fast GPU hours
Basic$10 USD (~$16 AUD)$8 USD (~$13 AUD)~3.3 hrs/mo
Standard$30 USD (~$48 AUD)$24 USD (~$38 AUD)15 hrs/mo + unlimited Relax
Pro$60 USD (~$96 AUD)$48 USD (~$77 AUD)30 hrs/mo + unlimited Relax
Mega$120 USD (~$192 AUD)$96 USD (~$154 AUD)60 hrs/mo + unlimited Relax

Annual billing saves 20%, but you pay the full year upfront. If you're considering cancelling, avoid the annual plan. One Reddit user reported having their account banned mid-year on an annual subscription with no refund for the remaining months.

Refund rules

Midjourney's refund policy is strict. You're only eligible if you've generated fewer than roughly 20 images (or used less than 20 GPU minutes) across the entire lifetime of your account. If you qualify, you'll see a refund option when you cancel. If you don't see it, you're not eligible.

For most active users, this means no refund. Cancel before your next billing date to avoid paying for another cycle.

No free tier

Midjourney doesn't offer a free plan. They briefly had a free trial in 2023 but suspended it due to abuse. As of 2026, the only way to generate images is through a paid subscription.

Free alternatives worth trying

If you're cancelling because the cost doesn't justify your usage, these are solid options:

  • ChatGPT with DALL-E (included with ChatGPT Free, limited daily generations) produces reliable results for general-purpose image generation
  • Adobe Firefly (free tier with limited monthly credits) handles commercial work well since Adobe trained it on licensed content
  • Leonardo AI (free tier with 150 daily tokens) good for stylised and concept art
  • Microsoft Copilot Image Creator (free with a Microsoft account) uses DALL-E under the hood
  • Stable Diffusion (free, open source) runs locally on your own hardware with zero usage limits, but requires some technical setup

One AI subscription cancelled. But how many others are quietly renewing each month?

Most people find 3-5 subscriptions they forgot about when they actually look. Upload a bank statement to Subtracker and see every recurring charge in 2 minutes. No bank login. No manual entry. $12.99 once.
