Cancel difficulty: Medium

Fetch TV is an Australian IPTV service (majority owned by Telstra) that works differently from most streaming subscriptions. You buy or lease a set-top box, then add channel packs on top. Cancelling depends on whether you bought the box yourself or got it through an ISP like Optus, Telstra, or iiNet.

Cancel channel packs (via the Fetch box)

If you just want to drop channel packs or add-ons but keep the box:

  1. Press the Menu button on your Fetch remote
  2. Navigate to Manage > Subscriptions
  3. Select the channel pack you want to cancel
  4. Press the red button on the remote to unsubscribe
  5. Enter your Parental Control PIN to confirm

Cancel at least 3 days before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next month. There are no refunds for unused portions.

Important: If you unsubscribe from the Entertainment Channel Pack, you cannot resubscribe to it later. This is a one-way door.

Cancel your entire Fetch TV subscription

If you want to cancel everything (not just channel packs):

  1. Log into your Fetch TV account online
  2. Go to Add & Remove Fetch Box and deactivate your box first
  3. Then go to Cancel Services under the Packages section
  4. Follow the prompts to cancel

Deactivating the box is a required step. If you skip it, the box stays registered to your account.

Cancel if you got Fetch through an ISP

This is where it gets complicated. If your Fetch TV came bundled with your internet plan, you can't cancel through Fetch directly. You need to contact your ISP:

  • Optus: Contact Optus support. You'll need to return the Fetch box or face a $100 non-return fee. (Multiple Reddit users in r/AusLegal report Optus sending debt collectors for unreturned boxes.)
  • Telstra: Call Telstra support or manage subscriptions via the Fetch box. Telstra customers can add/remove channel packs through the box directly.
  • iiNet: Call 13 22 58. iiNet stopped selling new Fetch TV bundles but existing customers still need to cancel through iiNet.
  • Internode: Call 1300 889 188.
  • Westnet: Call 1300 786 068.

If your Fetch came with a 12-month ISP contract, early termination fees may apply for the broadband service (not the Fetch TV specifically).

After you cancel

If you own the box (bought retail from JB Hi-Fi or the Fetch store), you keep it. Free-to-air channels still work as long as you have a TV antenna connected. If the box was leased from an ISP, return it or you'll be charged a non-return fee ($100 with Optus). No refunds for unused subscription time.

Worth knowing

  • You must wait 48 hours after connecting a new Fetch box before you can change channel packs.
  • Fetch TV boxes bought retail (not leased) keep working for free-to-air TV even after cancelling all paid services. You're essentially left with a decent digital TV tuner and PVR.
  • If you're mainly watching streaming services through your Fetch box (Netflix, Stan, etc.), those are separate subscriptions billed by those services, not through Fetch.

Fetch sorted. But channel packs aren't the only subscriptions quietly billing you.
