Cancel difficulty: Easy

DocPlay is an Australian documentary streaming service with over 1,000 titles. Cancelling is straightforward, but the cancel option isn't labelled "Cancel". You select "Free User" instead, which is DocPlay's way of saying "downgrade to nothing".

How to cancel (website)

  1. Log in to docplay.com
  2. Go to Your Account
  3. Select Preferences
  4. Click the Subscription tab
  5. Select Free User to cancel

There's no explicit cancel button. Selecting the "Free User" plan is how you stop being billed.

Cancel if you subscribed through Apple

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone > tap your name > Subscriptions
  2. Find DocPlay and tap Cancel Subscription

You cannot cancel an App Store subscription through the DocPlay app or website.

Cancel if you subscribed through Google Play

  1. Open the Google Play Store app
  2. Tap your profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions
  3. Find DocPlay > Cancel subscription
After you cancel

Access continues until the end of your billing period. No partial refund. Your account stays active so you can resubscribe later.

Current pricing (AUD)

PlanDirectApple App Store
Monthly$9.99/mo$8.99/mo
Annual$99.99/yr$89.99/yr

Apple pricing is actually cheaper here (unusual). All plans include ad-free HD streaming and up to 2 simultaneous screens. A 14-day free trial is available for new subscribers.

Do you need DocPlay?

Before cancelling (or after), consider the free alternatives for documentary content in Australia:

  • SBS On Demand (free) has a massive documentary library, arguably the best free documentary source in the country
  • ABC iview (free) has award-winning Australian documentaries
  • Kanopy (free with a library card) has curated arthouse and documentary films
  • YouTube has several dedicated free documentary channels

Between SBS On Demand and Kanopy, most casual documentary watchers are covered without paying anything. DocPlay's advantage is its Australian-specific documentaries (Indigenous stories, Australian true crime, surfing) and newer BBC Studios content from a November 2025 deal.

DocPlay done. Now, what about the streaming services you're actually forgetting about?

Most people find 3-5 subscriptions they forgot about when they actually look. Upload a bank statement to Subtracker and see every recurring charge in 2 minutes. No bank login. No manual entry. $12.99 once.
