Cancel difficulty: Medium

Dinnerly is the budget arm of Marley Spoon (same parent company, same warehouse, same cancellation flow). If you've tried cancelling Marley Spoon before, this will look familiar. The process pushes you through skip and pause options before showing you the actual cancel button, and if you don't cancel before the weekly cutoff, your next box ships regardless.

Skip vs pause vs cancel

This is where Dinnerly (and Marley Spoon) trip people up. Three options, only one actually stops your subscription.

  • Skip delays a single week's delivery. Your subscription resumes the following week automatically. You need to skip each week individually.
  • Pause lets you pick a return date. No boxes ship until then. But your subscription reactivates on that date, and if you forget, the boxes start coming again.
  • Cancel (called "Stop Subscription" in the UI) actually ends your subscription. No more boxes, no more charges. This is the one you want.

Skipping or pausing might make sense if you're going on holiday or have a busy week. But if you're done with Dinnerly, go straight to cancel.

How to cancel online

  1. Log in at dinnerly.com.au
  2. Click your name or profile icon, then Settings
  3. Scroll to Manage subscription
  4. Click Stop Subscription
  5. Click Continue through the prompts (they'll suggest skipping or pausing first)
  6. Click Cancel account
  7. Click Proceed to confirm

You'll see an on-screen confirmation and receive a cancellation email. Save that email.

Dark pattern warning

The cancellation flow steers you toward skipping or pausing before it shows the actual cancel option. You'll see "Skip a week" and "Pause my account" presented as the primary choices, with "Stop Subscription" further down the page. Once you click Stop Subscription, there's another round of prompts before you reach the final "Cancel account" button. It's not hard, but it takes more clicks than it should.

Cancel by phone or email

If you'd rather skip the online flow:

State your name, email address, and that you want to cancel your subscription. Not skip, not pause. Cancel.

Important for first orders: Your first box is locked in the moment your account is created. Cancelling your subscription online won't cancel that first delivery. You need to contact Dinnerly directly by phone or email to stop a first order.

The weekly cutoff

This is the part that catches people out. Dinnerly locks in your next box 4-7 days before delivery, depending on your location. After the cutoff, the order is processed and charged. Cancelling after this point won't stop that box from arriving.

The cutoff time is 11:59pm in your local timezone, and you can check the exact deadline for each upcoming order on the Orders page in your account. Look for the "days left to edit" notice under each order date.

Dinnerly sends a reminder email 9-10 days before each delivery. If you're planning to cancel, do it the moment you get that email (or earlier). Don't wait until the last day.

One extra thing to watch: Dinnerly reserves the right to bring the cutoff forward by up to 48 hours around public holidays. They have to give 7 days' notice, but it's easy to miss in your inbox.

No cancellation fee

There's no contract, no minimum number of boxes, and no penalty for cancelling. You can cancel after your first delivery if you want. You can also reactivate at any time by logging back in and clicking "Reactivate Subscription."

Pricing (AUD)

Dinnerly positions itself as the affordable meal kit. All prices include $9.99 delivery.

BoxMealsTotal pricePer serving
2 people2 meals$49.95~$12.49
2 people3 meals$63.93~$10.66
2 people4 meals$77.91~$9.74
2 people5 meals$89.89~$8.99
2 people6 meals$99.87~$8.32
4 people2 meals$77.91~$9.74
4 people3 meals$99.87~$8.33
4 people4 meals$121.83~$7.61
4 people5 meals$149.79~$7.49
4 people6 meals$153.75~$6.41

First-time customers usually sign up with a heavy discount (up to $140 off across the first few boxes). The regular price feels steep by comparison, which is why many people cancel once the introductory offer runs out.

After you cancel

Your account stays on file but goes inactive. No more boxes ship and no more charges. Any box that was already past the weekly cutoff when you cancelled will still be delivered and charged. If you reactivate later, check that your delivery address is still correct.

Dinnerly vs just doing your own shopping

At $6-12 per serving (depending on your plan), Dinnerly saves time on meal planning but not money. A comparable home-cooked meal using supermarket ingredients typically costs $3-5 per serving. The convenience premium is real, but if the budget is what's pushing you to cancel, you're probably better off batch-planning meals yourself.

If you still want the meal kit format but want to compare options, Dinnerly's sister service Marley Spoon runs $8.49-$13.49 per serving with more recipe variety and individually bagged ingredients. HelloFresh and EveryPlate are the other major Australian options.

One less subscription to think about. But meal kits are just one line on the statement. What else is billing you weekly?

Most people find 3-5 subscriptions they forgot about when they actually look. Upload a bank statement to Subtracker and see every recurring charge in 2 minutes. No bank login. No manual entry. $12.99 once.
