Cancel difficulty: Easy

The good news about cancelling Canva: the free tier is genuinely useful. Unlike most SaaS downgrades, you don't lose your designs. They stay in your account. You just lose access to premium templates, Brand Kit, background remover, and the AI features.

How to cancel

  1. Go to canva.com and sign in
  2. Click your profile icon (top right) > Settings
  3. Go to Billing & plans
  4. Click Cancel subscription (or Cancel trial if you're on a free trial)
  5. Canva will show a retention screen. Click through the offers
  6. Confirm the cancellation

You can also do this from the Canva mobile app: tap your profile icon > Settings > Account > Billing > Cancel.

Cancel if you subscribed through Apple or Google

If you signed up via the iOS or Android app, your billing goes through Apple or Google, not Canva:

  • Apple: Settings > your name > Subscriptions > Canva > Cancel
  • Google Play: Play Store > profile > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > Canva > Cancel
After you cancel

Your account reverts to the free tier. All your designs, folders, and uploaded assets stay in your account. You can still view and edit them, but some elements in existing designs may show a watermark if they used premium stock images. Any Brand Kit settings, premium fonts, and background remover access stop working.

Current pricing (AUD)

PlanMonthlyAnnual
Free$0$0
Pro (1 person)$21.99/mo$164.99/yr (~$13.75/mo)
Teams (3+ people)$39.99/mo per person$249.90/yr for first 3

The annual plan saves about 37% compared to monthly. A 30-day free trial is available for Canva Pro.

Is the free tier enough?

For most people, yes. Canva Free includes:

  • Hundreds of thousands of templates (not all, but plenty)
  • 5GB cloud storage
  • Basic photo editing and design tools
  • Download in PNG, JPG, PDF, SVG
  • Collaboration and sharing

What you lose on Free: Brand Kit, Magic Resize, background remover, premium stock photos, scheduled social media posting, and the AI image/text tools. If you used Canva mainly for making presentations, social posts, or simple graphics, the free tier does the job.

Refund policy

Canva doesn't offer prorated refunds for annual plans. If you cancel an annual subscription mid-year, you keep access until the end of the paid period but don't get money back for unused months. Monthly plans simply stop at the end of the current billing cycle.

Exception: if you're within the first 14 days of a new annual subscription or renewal, contact Canva support to request a refund. This isn't guaranteed but is commonly reported as successful.

Canva handled. What other software subscriptions are you paying for that you barely use?

Most people find 3-5 subscriptions they forgot about when they actually look. Upload a bank statement to Subtracker and see every recurring charge in 2 minutes. No bank login. No manual entry. $12.99 once.
