To cancel Strava, use the same platform you subscribed on. If you signed up on the Strava website, go to strava.com, open Settings > My Account and click Cancel subscription. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel in Apple or Google's subscription settings, because Strava can't cancel a purchase it doesn't bill. Either way you keep every paid feature until the end of the period you've already paid for, then drop to the free tier. No activity, route, or follower is deleted.
Do you actually need to cancel?
Strava's free tier still records your runs and rides with full GPS, and it keeps your pace, distance, time, and elevation. After Strava moved several features behind the paywall in August 2024, free is thinner than it once was, but it still covers logging activities and sharing them. If that's all you use Strava for, you already have what you need without paying.
Here's what stays and what goes when you drop to free:
| Feature | Free | Paid |
|---|---|---|
| GPS activity recording | Yes | Yes |
| Pace, distance, time, elevation | Yes | Yes |
| Social feed, kudos, comments | Yes | Yes |
| Club membership | Yes | Yes |
| Uploads from watches and sensors | Yes | Yes |
| Segment leaderboards (top 10 view) | Yes | Yes |
| Full and filtered leaderboards | No | Yes |
| Route builder and offline maps | No | Yes |
| Fitness & Freshness, training analysis | No | Yes |
| Performance predictions | No | Yes |
| Group Challenges | No | Yes |
| Beacon live location, matched runs, heatmaps | No | Yes |
Free records what you did; paid tells you what it means and what to do next. The paid features matter most to competitive athletes who care about segment rankings, structured training, or route planning. For everyone else, free covers the job.
How to cancel on the web
Cancel here if you subscribed on strava.com and pay Strava directly by card.
- Go to strava.com and sign in
- Click your profile picture (top right), then Settings
- Open My Account
- Under your subscription details, click Cancel subscription
- Confirm
No retention screens, no discount gauntlet. Your subscription downgrades to free at the end of your current billing period.
How to cancel on iPhone
If you subscribed through the App Store, Apple bills you and Apple cancels it. You can start from inside the app:
- Open Strava, go to the You tab, tap the gear icon for Settings
- Tap Your Strava Subscription, then Manage Your Subscription
That routes you into Apple's settings. Or go there directly: open iPhone Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap Strava, then Cancel Subscription. If you signed up on the Strava website, Strava won't appear in your App Store subscriptions. Use the web method above.
How to cancel on Android
If you subscribed through Google Play, cancel in Google Play:
- Open the Google Play Store
- Tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions
- Tap Strava, then Cancel subscription
Same rule as iPhone: a subscription you started on the website won't show up in Google Play. Cancel it on strava.com instead.
Strava auto-renews unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. If you're inside that 24-hour window, the next charge may already be locked in, and cancelling won't refund it. Cancel a few days early to be safe, not the night before.
Current pricing (AUD)
Strava sells one subscription (it dropped the separate feature packs years ago), billed monthly or annually. Prices are set in Australian dollars for AU accounts.
| Plan | Price (AUD) |
|---|---|
| Monthly | $14.99/mo |
| Annual | $119.99/yr (about $10/mo) |
| Family (annual) | Available at a higher annual rate |
The annual plan works out cheaper per month, but only if you're sure you'll keep using the paid features. Strava also runs promotions (a January 2026 code cut the annual plan to $74.99), so if you're on the fence, an offer usually turns up.
Can you get a refund?
If you bought directly from Strava and change your mind, you can request a full refund within 14 days of purchase by contacting Strava support; after 14 days the subscription is non-refundable. Cancelling a renewal that already charged doesn't trigger a refund on its own. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, refunds run through Apple or Google, each with its own process. As an Australian consumer, the Australian Consumer Law still applies on top of Strava's stated policy where the service is faulty or not as described.
Free alternatives for tracking
If free Strava isn't enough:
- Garmin Connect is free and syncs automatically with Garmin watches, with training analysis and route planning built in.
- Nike Run Club is free with guided runs, training plans, and GPS tracking, and has no paid tier.
- Apple Fitness tracks workouts and trends at no extra cost if you own an Apple Watch.
For most recreational runners and cyclists, one of these plus free Strava replaces everything a paid subscription gave you. If your fitness spending is the real issue, it usually isn't only Strava: the same audit that flags a MyFitnessPal subscription you forgot about or a gym contract still auto-debiting tends to turn up two or three more.
FAQ
How do I cancel Strava on my iPhone?
It depends on where you subscribed. If you signed up through the App Store, open iPhone Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap Strava, then Cancel Subscription (or reach the same place via the app: You tab > gear > Your Strava Subscription > Manage Your Subscription). If you subscribed on strava.com, the App Store has no record of it. Cancel on the website instead.
What do I lose on free Strava?
You keep recording activities with GPS and keep your basic stats, feed, kudos, and clubs. You lose the analysis and competition layer: full and filtered segment leaderboards, route builder and offline maps, Fitness & Freshness, performance predictions, Group Challenges, Beacon live location, matched runs, and heatmaps. Several of these moved behind the paywall in August 2024.
Will I keep my activity history?
Yes. Cancelling only removes access to paid features. Every activity, route, photo, follower, and personal record stays on your account, and it's all there if you resubscribe later. Losing your history requires deleting your account, which is a separate action.
Can I get a refund?
If you bought directly from Strava, you can request a full refund within 14 days of purchase through Strava support; after that it's non-refundable. App Store and Google Play purchases are refunded by Apple or Google under their own rules. Cancelling after a renewal has already charged doesn't refund that charge by itself.
Does cancelling delete my account?
No. Cancelling drops you to the free tier but leaves your account and all its data intact. Deleting your account is a separate choice under Settings > My Account, and it permanently removes your activities and profile.
You keep full paid access until the end of your current billing period, then revert to free. All your activity data, history, and social connections stay put. Nothing is deleted, and resubscribing later brings the paid features straight back. While you're in your billing settings, a subscription tracker built for Australian accounts will surface every other recurring charge still hitting your card, so Strava isn't the only thing you stop paying for by accident.
One subscription sorted. How many others are ticking over in the background?
Most people find 3-5 subscriptions they forgot about when they actually look. Upload a bank statement to Subtracker and see every recurring charge in under two minutes. No bank login. No manual entry. $19 once.
